The Elder Scrolls VI: Moonstrider is a single-player role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks.

It is the sixth installment in The Elder Scrolls action/adventure RPG fantasy video game series, and follows The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim by approximately 100 years, during the Fifth Era. The game was announced on August 16th 2016 at Bethesda's E3 stand, where they simultaneously announced an upcoming Fallout 4 DLC. It was there when Bethesda announced that they will be using the Unreal Engine 4 for Moonstrider.

Plot[]

One hundred years have passed since the Last Dragonborn drove the Dragons out of Tamriel. The year is 5E 173 and the Empire stands on the brink of destruction. After the Aldmeri Dominion annexed Valenwood and invaded Elsweyr, rebellions and minor uprisings sprung up everywhere on southern Tamriel. One notable rebel faction are The Resistance, based in Elsweyr.

The player begins the game imprisoned on an Imperial ship bound for Cyrodiil. However, the ship is being attacked by Thalmor frigates and some prisoners are able to escape. One of the prisoners releases the player's chains, gives them an iron dagger and tells them to abandon the ship. When the player arrives on deck, he/she notices three large ships attacking the Imperials. The player gets a few basic instructions as they fight Thalmor soldiers boarding the prisoner ship. A large cannon blast knocks the player into the sea.

The player reawakens on a beach. They have to travel through the wilderness to find civilization and to find out what is going on. This is simultaneously the tutorial quest. After the player finds shelter from an old Khajiit warrior, they find out they have been stranded near the city of Fenchal of southern Elsweyr. After doing some quests, the player is tasked with delivering some sealed documents to the Mane in Torval. After the player successfully delivers the documents, the Mane claims that the player is the legendary Moonstrider, a prophesied Khajiiti legend. According to the Mane, a Moonstrider is a mortal who has been blessed by the two moons, Masser and Secunda and can therefore receive special powers from these moons at night. According to prophecy, the Moonstrider will come in a time of need and "banish Elsweyr's enemies from the land." The player will then be asked to aid the Resistance in fighting the Thalmor. However, the player can also choose to become a Thalmor agent him/herself, and destroy the Resistance and help them conquer Valenwood and Elsweyr.

Narration[]

When the False Emperor is destroyed and the lost pieces are found once more,
When the Tower of Brass is banished and the Undead King is once again laid to rest,
When the accursed Nerevar's Bane is cast into Oblivion, the Reincarnated One finds redemption in themselves,
When the Demon God reenters the World of Men, and two mortals take on the form of Gods,
When an ancient enemy is killed in the World of the Dead, and a cursed prophecy is left unfulfilled,
The Last Elder Scroll Prophecy will be written, and those who were Lost, will rise again.

Setting[]

The sixth installment of The Elder Scrolls takes place in two provinces: Valenwood and Elsweyr. When the player first starts the game, they will begin in Elsweyr. As the player progresses through the story they will be able to cross borders and to go to Valenwood. Both provinces have highly unstable political powers and peace balances on a thin line. There is an ongoing guerrilla civil war fought between the Thalmor soldiers of the Third Aldmeri Dominion and The Resistance, loyal to Elsweyr's Mane.

The first province, Elsweyr, is the area where the player will begin his/her journey. It's geography consists of arid badlands and deserts to the north, and lush rain forests to the south. Its architecture and atmosphere is slightly similar to the town of Leyawiin in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Elsweyr's area is larger compared to that of The Elder Scrolls' fifth installment, Skyrim with an area of roughly 68 square kilometers in area (or 26 square miles).

The second province is Valenwood. Valenwood is much larger than Elsweyr with an area of 81 km/sq (31.3~ m/sq). The coasts of Valenwood are dominated by mangrove swamps and sub-tropical rain forests, while heavy rainfalls nurture the temperate inland rain forests. The Bosmer live in clanhouses at sites scattered along the coast and through the interior, connected only by undeveloped foot trails. The few Imperial roads traverse vast dense woodlands, studded with tiny, widely separated settlements, and carry little trade or traffic of any kind. Furthermore, the nation is home to giant, migratory trees, such as Falinesti, that house their cities. The player is able to climb these trees due to a new "free-run" system.
