The Nalruelen? Bunch of power hungry liars from what I've heard.

— -Breton Merchant

The Nalruelen Family is a minor noble family currently holding rule over a few minor hamlets and villages between the High Rock cities of Farrun and Jelvanna. Though in years past, they had once gained control of these cities to form the Kingdom of Nalruelen, one that was cut short when Tiber Septim's forces invadeded High Rock. Nowadays, they are infamous for their political backstabbing and speading of lies, as well as their ties with Independant Hammerfall.

History[]

Humble founding[]

The creation of the Nalruelen as a noble house dates back to the days when King Emeric ruled over a united covenant of Bretons, Redguards and Orcs. These were sad days. Tamriel was at war; not only with itself, but also with the rising forces of Oblivion that sought dominion over the lands. The Ebonheart Pact, the Aldmeri Dominion and the Covenant were all locked in a power struggle over the tattered remains of the old empire, each getting nowhere in this war.

As thousands of soldiers died in the field in the covenants name, more were drawn in to fill the empty ranks. Among these new conscripts was Braiden Nalruelen, a simple farmer called into the war. Through battle after battle with both the Dominion and the Pact, Braiden became a hero of the Covenant, known for his selfless acts in the field. He was known to have led soldiers to taking many key forts, and helping win battles with seemingly impossible charges against the enemy. He continued with these heroic actions until finally King Emeric himself heard of this man, and placed him among the ranks of his fabled Lions Guard. Braiden accepted this charge with honour, with part of this position granting him lands in High Rock. Lands that he would make use of.

It wasnt until late in Braidens year that all of this was discovered as false. He was not a simple farmer, rather a caught thief whom managed to get into the army, and lie about his past. He had never made any of those selfless acts, instead, he had bribed his enemies into giving up those castles, only to backstab them and steal back his money. Once he had gotten his status as a nobleman, he started a family of liars and cheats much like himself.

Rise in Power[]

Lies and bribes got them into power, and seems they will be the only way to get them out.

— Political enemy

After many years, Emeric's covenant begun to die back into the scattered city states it once was, allowing for the Nalruelen Family to jump upon its ashes. Despite the well known truths about their illegal doings, they were in a well placed position inside the newly emerging Kingdom of Ferrun. They were held in high regard by the King Jeren, and given more lands under his rule.

At this time, the family was headed by the eccentric Lord Cantius, whose ambition for greatness was well known by his followers. He desired to restore High Rock to its former glory, back to the days of the long gone Daggerfall Covenant. He blamed its loss on Emeric. Had he not joined in the war for Cyrodiil, its power may not have waned, and it may not have fallen back into the squabbling states it now was. For that reason, he saw that the Nalruelen family should rule, as he believed that they would not fall as Emeric did.

For his family to rule, Cantius needed power and influence, both of which lay in the Kingdom of Ferrun. He needed to place himself high in King Jeren's court, so he, and his successors would have a chance to take power when the opportunity showed itself. Soon enough, political enemies went missing, or were found dead because of 'accidental' causes. Some chose to pull out, renouncing their lands in favour for other endevours or were banded outlaws for some past crime. As these things happened, the Nalruelen Family rose higher in influence and power, with Cantius becoming the Kings chief advisor. However, Cantius fell victim to his own ambition and arrogance. He oft told his family of his grand plans, expecting not for them to betray him. But in the end, his life was taken by his own son.

I never knew family bickering's could tear a kingdom apart.

Trivia[]

  • This is actually the shattered remains of what was to be a massive project, of which I was to write about my own version of the fifth era. But unfortuately I ran out of time for it and started this.
  • I will eventually create a Skyrim charater coming from this noble house. (Maybe even Braiden himself if I get ESO)
